Physician Alignment & Succession
Structuring growth and succession around durable physician leadership, aligned incentives, shared infrastructure, and long-term continuity.
I work at healthcare inflection points, building the operations, compliance, governance, technology, and infrastructure that turn clinical vision into durable enterprise value.
My career spans national corporate medicine, multi-state integrations and acquisitions, physician-led care, and the operating architecture behind a single clinic’s evolution into a Nasdaq-listed integrated healthcare company. Today, through Adam M. Cox LLC, I work with physicians, founders, boards, investors, and healthcare organizations where disciplined execution matters as much as strategy.
Professionally, I’m a healthcare operator first. My career has been spent inside healthcare organizations, building the systems, teams, controls, and infrastructure required to make ambitious clinical and business strategies work in practice.
My operating background began in national corporate medicine, including enterprise work with IASIS Healthcare and acquisition and integration responsibilities with Steward Health Care. That work required translating enterprise standards into functioning local operations across multiple markets while preserving continuity of care, regulatory discipline, and organizational accountability.
I later served as Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of KindlyMD, where I architected the operating infrastructure that supported its transformation from a single-service clinic into an integrated healthcare organization spanning pain management, behavioral health, and primary care. The company listed on Nasdaq in June 2024. My role centered on the operational, compliance, payer, governance, and organizational infrastructure required to support that evolution. I departed in November 2025 following a material change in the company’s strategic direction.
One of the most valuable outcomes of that career has been the team around me. Several colleagues I first worked with years ago have chosen to collaborate with me again across later ventures. That continuity matters. Durable healthcare organizations are not built by a single executive; they are built by capable people working within clear systems, strong governance, and a culture of accountability.
I believe exceptional clinical care and disciplined operational execution are mutually reinforcing. The organizations most likely to endure are those capable of protecting both.
Before any professional title, I am a husband and father. My family is the center of my life. They keep my priorities clear and are a large part of why I care so deeply about building organizations that serve people well and endure.
Selected operating and governance achievements supported by public filings, company announcements, and formal institutional documentation.
Appointed COO in 2022 to lead operational strategy and data-driven solutions. I architected the operating infrastructure supporting KindlyMD’s evolution from a single-service clinic into an integrated healthcare company and its June 2024 Nasdaq IPO. The company’s public filing described me as integral in securing banking relationships, insurance payor contracts, key location expansion, and referring partnerships.
Served as a director through KindlyMD’s transition from private company to Nasdaq-listed issuer, signed the company’s SEC registration statement as Chief Operating Officer and Director, and was reelected by shareholders in 2024. During my board tenure, I was deeply involved in the evaluation, structuring discussions, and authorization of a complex financing package that grew to approximately $763 million in announced commitments.
At its May 2025 announcement, the initial approximately $710 million capital package was publicly described as the largest capital raise to launch a Bitcoin treasury and the largest PIPE for any public crypto-related transaction.
At IASIS Healthcare, pioneered healthcare data analytics, training, and management initiatives later implemented nationwide. Following the Steward acquisition, guided nationwide hospital and clinical acquisitions and enterprise information-systems integration. The S-1 described me as Steward’s go-to expert for many critical ambulatory operations.
After multiple third-party credentialing efforts failed, I took over payer access personally. Starting without prior credentialing experience, I learned the process from the ground up, built direct relationships with payer decision-makers, and secured participation that allowed KindlyMD to evolve from a cash-pay cannabis clinic into an insured integrated-care organization.
I also built the documentation and compliance controls that supported a major Utah commercial payer audit completed with no findings or corrective notes. The auditor reported that it was the first review in her experience to close without a note.
Spearheaded the development and implementation of a formal medical-cannabis clinical pathway for Utah’s Third District Veterans Treatment Court. Over approximately ten months, I worked directly with court and government stakeholders to shape the policy framework, clinical safeguards, referral process, information-sharing standards, and integrated-care model adopted by the program.
Policy #17 expressly names KindlyMD and establishes a whole-person assessment model integrating mental health services, traditional medication, and plant-based alternatives, with defined processes for referrals, ethical information sharing, and ongoing participant oversight.
Designed and operationalized an integrated-care model that aligned physicians and behavioral-health clinicians around shared patient goals. When differences in clinical language and workflow created communication gaps, I built practical handoff and case-communication processes that allowed both disciplines to coordinate treatment in real time rather than operate in parallel.
That included structured provider handoffs, brief real-time case debriefs, and, when appropriate, transitions conducted with the patient present so medical and behavioral-health plans remained aligned and patients understood how each part of their care fit together.
My current work centers on physician-led and specialty organizations facing succession, consolidation, and multi-state growth. The thesis is simple: build enough enterprise infrastructure to create scale, bargaining power, and capital readiness without separating physicians from clinical judgment, local identity, or patient relationships.
Structuring growth and succession around durable physician leadership, aligned incentives, shared infrastructure, and long-term continuity.
Designing management services organization (MSO), clinically integrated network (CIN), independent practice association (IPA), and hybrid structures that preserve practice-level autonomy while creating enterprise leverage.
Building repeatable operating models for market entry, acquisitions, provider onboarding, credentialing, standardized workflows, electronic health record (EHR) and data integration, governance, and local-market execution.
Building governance, technology, compliance, revenue-cycle discipline, shared services, and operating data that let leaders see where performance is improving, drifting, or at risk.
Preparing healthcare organizations for acquisitions, strategic partnerships, institutional capital, and public-market scrutiny by addressing the operational work that must precede the transaction.
I work best where the mandate is consequential and execution matters as much as strategy. My job is to build the systems, relationships, and operating discipline that leave a playbook behind, so the organization no longer depends on heroics.

Plenty of people can describe what a healthcare organization should do. Far fewer have stood inside one and built the operations, compliance, and governance that make it real and durable. My perspective comes from doing exactly that, in real time, under real consequences.
I lead through servant leadership and operational realism: I surround myself with the best people in the field, give them the systems to succeed, and move organizations from vision to execution. Healthcare occupies a unique position of trust. Patients build their lives around it, and that conviction shapes how I approach operational decisions.
I build healthcare organizations for the moments that determine what comes next.
I write and speak about the operating, clinical, regulatory, and capital questions shaping healthcare. I am particularly interested in areas where innovation is moving faster than institutional consensus and where responsible leadership requires scrutiny without stagnation.
The obligation is to pair curiosity with skepticism: scrutiny without stagnation, caution without paralysis, and innovation that earns its place through evidence, governance, and measurable patient benefit.
A forthcoming conversation on healthcare leadership, building through change, and the operating lessons that emerge when there is no established playbook.
